SEIRN Conference 2023
May 19-21, Alabama

Since we last gathered in September 2019, we have been through a devastating pandemic and an extraordinary period of political and social events. After enduring more than three years of social distancing and political turmoil, we are excited to offer a regional space for SEIRN members and partners to reconnect, grieve, heal and celebrate the power of our communities.

With the 2023 SEIRN Conference, we seek to create a multiracial, intergenerational, multilingual gathering to help rebuild our sense of community and honor the sacrifice and resistance of our people by: creating spaces to lift up rest and joy as essential tools of self-preservation, resistance and resilience; sharing radical practices around collective/community based care; offering quality rest time; and, as always, holding strategic conversations about critical issues facing our communities.

Because COVID-19 continues to impact our communities, we are organizing this space  as a smaller, more intimate gathering than past SEIRN conferences.  For this reason, we strongly encourage you to register early to ensure your spot at the Conference. If you are applying for a scholarship, you must register and submit the scholarship application by the early bird deadline of March 31.

SEIRN’s 2023 Conference will take place May 19-21 in Alabama (approximately 1 hour and a half north of Birmingham). The Conference will begin at 6 pm on Friday the 19th and end at 1 pm on Sunday the 21st.

Registration for the Conference is now open!

Early bird registration ends on March 31. Regular registration ends on April 12. The last day to receive a partial reimbursement for a cancelled registration is April 26. If you cancel your registration on or before April 26, we will reimburse 75% of your registration and lodging fee. We are very sorry that we are unable to reimburse registration/lodging fees for cancellations after April 26.

Any registrations that remain unpaid by April 30 will be cancelled. This is necessary because after that date SEIRN is unable to change the number of participants, and we will be charged for each person on the list, whether or not they attend the conference.

All organizations that are current on their membership dues will receive a discount on their registration. Click here bit.ly/SEIRNmember to become a member or to renew your membership.

If you have trouble filling out the registration form or prefer to register over the phone, please call Luis at 256-390-9630 and leave a message with your name, number, and a time for him to call you back.

Registration fees
Children and Youth

We are requesting a $25 donation per child for children between the ages of 3 and 14 to cover lodging, food, and childcare. There is no charge for children 2 and under, and youth 15 and older must register individually and pay the full registration and lodging fee.

Lodging

The conference will take place at a retreat center and campsite.

Most of the lodging consists of hotel style rooms for 1-4 people. All rooms will include 2 beds. We strongly encourage you to select the single room, single occupancy option and practice social distancing. If you are traveling with family or a group, these rooms can host up to 4 adults comfortably. There are some dorm style cabins with bunk beds accommodating 6-10 people, but this option is limited and will only be reserved for larger groups on a first-come basis.

Lodging Costs
Scholarships

SEIRN has limited funds to support groups that wish to attend the conference. Scholarships are available to support travel and lodging costs. Click here to apply for a scholarship. We are sorry, but scholarships are not available to cover registration fees. Please contact Luis at 256-390-9630 for questions about scholarships or suggestions for other ways to cover conference costs.

SEIRN will make every effort to assist those who request financial support, but due to limited funds, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled. It is also possible that an applicant may be awarded less than the original amount requested. If financial aid is awarded, all participants must commit to attending the entire conference.

Please keep in mind that grassroots groups and organizations who are SEIRN members will receive first priority. Click here to become a member or renew your membership. To be considered for a scholarship, you must submit both the scholarship application and participants' registration(s) no later than March 31, 2023.
